OK, Blow it Dry Yourself

Posted in Hair, Uncategorized on February 18, 2009 by luxehabitat

Here’s a great video by Eva Scrivo (Martha Alumni), and Rae & Co. Salon top tips for a great at home blowdry.

  1. Please use conditioner on the mid shaft and ends of hair. If your hair gets really tangled, comb thru in the shower with A WIDE TOOTH COMB GENTLY. If you have really fine hair with no traces of any chemicals (perms, color, relaxers), you are the only exception to no conditioner.
  2. Blot hair, do not rub dry with a towel. This roughs up the hair cuticle and is harder for a sleek, shiny, blowout. Microfiber towels are a good option. Remember this is your crown and glory, treat it gently!
  3. Let air dry as long as possible, this will speed drying time.
  4. Do use a styling product. Our top choices in the salon.
  5. Toni & Guy Fashionista Smooth and Shine~ great for all hair types, protects hair from the heat and leaves a killer shine, with nice body.
  6. Redken BodyFull Leave in Treatment and K-pak Mousse~ great for fine hair
  7. Moroccon Oil for incredible body, superb shine, protection against uva damaging affects. For all hair types but very fine. One of the best products I’ve ever used.
  8. Moroccon Oil Styling Treatment  hands down for super curly, frizzy hair blown out straight.
  9. At the very least section the top of your hair from the bottom.I am sure you have some jaw clips around. Remember the more sections the easier and faster the blowout. Sections are always used in the salon.
  10. For the Love of God dig out the nozel from the back of your bathroom cabinet and put it on your blowdryer!Remember to keep it flush with the hair at all times, picture vacuming your hair, but try to just go down the hair shaft from root to end. You really don’t have to pull that hard, let your nozel do the work.
  11. Finish with a shot of cool air .

I can’t believe the Deva Fuser is finally here. The first diffuser innovation in over 60 years! If you are tired of frizzy, overprocessed curls and crave shiny, frizz free curls, get one now. Unique ergonomic design and 360 degree air flow dries hair closest to your scalp while allowing air to flow out onto top strands at the same time. Eliminating frizz forever! One thing that is really important is to follow the Deva Fuser Instruction Guide. Tilt head to the side, place deva fuser onto scalp and hold 2 minutes, repeating all over the head for 2 minutes in each area. Trying to get an area pretty dry, before moving to the next. Finish by cupping long ends in the palm of the deva fuser. If desired spray with a little Set if Free and fluff with fingers. Other important tips to remember. Don’t rough hair up to much with terry towels. Blot gently with paper towels. Comb conditioner through hair with a wide tooth comb if necessary so you don’t have to comb through after rinsing. Apply gel to soaking wet hair and get that frizz before it gets you. Don’t touch hair until it is completely dry. Stop in to Rae & Co. Salon to get the introductory price of $34.95 ( Reg. $39.95 ) for the month of October.

Got Curls?

Posted in Hair, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on October 6, 2008 by luxehabitat

Curly girls- we know you are a breed unto yourselves, you’re smart, sassy, know a thing or two about curly hair and have been to your fair share of curl experts. Here at Rae & Co. Salon we swear by Deva Curl Products and our #1 reason why is because they are sulfate free. Sulfates strip the hair of moisture and oil, they are those harsh chemicals that give us the lather that we love. Most people think lots of suds and squeaky clean hair is a good thing, right. Not so, think of your hair as a fine fabric, would you wash your finest silk or cashmere sweater on cotton/sturdy with extra hot water and generic detergent, then wring the hell out of it and dry it on the highest possible heat or handwash it gently in cool water with a very mild detergent and blotting well with paper towels before air drying. OK- you get my point. Here are our Deva Curl Specialist , Jennifer Ott’s TOP TIPS for curly hair.

  1. Invest in your curls with a better low or no sulfate shampoo and you’ll no longer need to wash as much. Also when shampooing wet hair, apply conditioner to the ends of hair then apply shampoo to the roots and massage scalp in circular motions. After rinsing condition if needed.
  2. Condition, Condition, Condition, you can not ever condition enough. Leave it in even. Curly hair can be rinsed and conditioned everyday. Shampooing maybe once a week.
  3. The less manipulation the better. If your hair gets tangled, comb conditioner through wet hair in the shower gently with a wide tooth comb, then rinse. Do not rub your hair dry with a towel, gently blot with paper towels or a microfiber towel in a scrunching motion.
  4. Scrunch in product, Arc Angel by DevaCurl is our best seller. Using about a quarter size amount , rub hands together and scrunch into curls from the bottom.
  5. The less touching of your hair the better, wait until it’s dry to play with it. Air dry, diffuse, or under a hooded dryer.
  6. Try a DevaCut~ this technique is done while the hair is dry, cutting curl by curl.
  7. Deep condition at least once a week. Wet hair , apply deep conditioner, leave in as long as possible 10 minutes or 8 hours, as long as you can. Rinse. Fabulous Curls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last summer while visiting Capri I stumbled upon this fabulous store, Flair. I loved it so much I made my husband take a picture of it. If only there was a way to get this stuff back home with me! Guess what,  while reading my favorite design blog {habitually chic}, I discovered they are now here in New York. Two former Coach alumni convinced the Florence based company to open a store in Soho, located at 88 Grand St.  Guess where I am going asap!
